FREE: HPCA “Change Under Pressure Programme Webinar – Building Change Resilience in Times of NHS Transformation

11 November @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The NHS is undergoing one of its most challenging periods in recent memory, with the abolition of NHS England, significant 50% reductions in ICB structures, and unprecedented financial deficit reduction programmes for Trusts. These structural and financial pressures can leave staff feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, and emotionally impacted by change.

This interactive webinar, hosted by the Healthcare Project and Change Association (HPCA), will equip NHS colleagues with practical tools and techniques to strengthen both personal and team resilience. Drawing on neuroscience for leading change, participants will gain insights into how the brain responds to uncertainty and pressure, and how to harness positive psychological strategies to sustain performance and wellbeing.

The session will integrate best practice models with practical exercises, including:

  • Neuroscience of Change – understanding brain responses under stress (SCARF model, brain chemistry and threat/reward responses).
  • Psychological Safety and Resilience – using Amy Edmondson’s Teaming and resilience-building approaches to foster safe spaces for staff.
  • Change Transition Models – applying Bridges’ Transition Model and the Kübler-Ross Change Curve to recognise and support emotional responses.
  • Practical Tools for Resilience – mindfulness micro-techniques, reframing challenges, resilience routines, and structured team check-ins.
  • Supporting Teams Through Change – strategies for leaders and managers to maintain engagement, fairness, and clarity in periods of uncertainty.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the natural emotional and neurological responses to large-scale NHS change.
  • Apply simple neuroscience-based techniques to build personal resilience and wellbeing.
  • Use structured models (SCARF, Bridges, Change Curve) to navigate transitions effectively.
  • Apply practical methods to support colleagues and teams in sustaining morale and focus.
  • Leave with ready-to-use resources and tools to support ongoing resilience in practice.
